Chapter 1: General introduction

I will not go into details on how to use iWeb since to me the best way to learn how it works is “Learning by doing”. Just have a look at the application, have a look at what it offers (Shapes, Pages, ...) and try everything out. Don't be afraid of trying things out. Your computer is not going to explode. Here I just would like to point out which are the most important parts and give you a few tips.

Certainly the most important part while building your website is the Inspector
. When you click on the white “i” in the blue circle you’re shown the following window...

From the upper menu you can choose different tabs. This is where most settings are done. Take the time to have a look at all the tabs and sub-tabs to see what you can set and where. At times you may want to have two Inspector windows open at the same time. If so hit option (alt) and click on a tab in the upper menu.

Second-most important is the Fonts
where you select the Font, Font-size, color, ...

Chapter 2: A tip on adding images

When adding an image to your text drop it into your iWeb page, copy it, delete it, go to the location where you want it to appear in your text and paste it right into the TextBox as it would be text. Why? This way it sticks in place and moves with the content. Otherwise it floats over it and you have to adjust the position each time you add or remove some content.

Chapter 3: How to add something to the Footer

Usually people try simply dragging a TextBox or an image into the footer. This only makes the page longer. Just hold down Command (Cmd or Apple) while moving the stuff around to place TextBoxes, Pictures and everything else into the footer of the page.

Chapter 4: How to make a link in iWeb

To make a link in iWeb write the text you would like to become a link and select it or select an image then go to Inspector, Link tab, check the “Enable as a hyperlink” box and choose whether you want to make a link to one of your pages, to an external page or to a file. If it’s an external page choose whether you want it to open in a new window or not. Under “Format” you can customize the appearance.

If you want to have one of your pages opening in a new window you have to link to it as it would be an external page by entering the URL of the page (how to find out the URL of one of your pages is described towards the end of this chapter).
