Wow. New forums.

I am trying to use some Html snippet code (with the word "test" in it) on my web page (locally) and then testing them on a web proxy (http://www.hide my ass .com) that connects back to my local server. But instead I am getting 404 file not found errors in places where my html code should be.
-----------
Not Found

The requested URL //Welcome_files/widget1_markup.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.37 Server at http://www.w2.hidemyass.com Port 80
-------------

I looked at the html code and found this

var widget1_htmlMarkupURL = ".//Welcome_files/widget1_markup.html";

Is there any way to make it into an absolute url or have some way for me to set a base url via the Web server or in iWeb? (ie: replaced the ".//" into an absolute URL?)

Thanks

It's not possible in iWeb. You would need to open the Welcome.html file in TextWrangler or TextEdit and change all the

.//Welcome_files/widget1_markup.html

you find into

http://yourdomain.com/sitename/Welcome_ ... urkup.html

I would never ever do that but of course if you enjoy doing it: why not? Maybe you can use MassReplaceIt (read the Alternative HTML FAQ) Search: .// Replace: http://yourdomain.com/sitename/ but I don't know if it works.

However there should not be any problems with the relative path url when uploading toa server.

Regards,
Cédric

thanks for your reply

because my website is behind an isp that blocks port incoming 80. i wanted to try an web proxy to look back at my own website to make sure it works first before continuing.

I think Privoxy can fix the issue, will post back on this if I make some progress.

I don't know why you need a proxy to preview the website. I'm not so savvy about those things but it doesn't really matter.

To preview a website (or a single page of a website) and simulate how it will look on a server you only need to Publish to a folder and open the site in local from the folder (by opening the index.html page or a particular page) which (as far as I know) equals exactly how it will work on a server.
