My slideshow on this site http://web.me.com/fillieverhoeven/slide/HOME_slide.html
(test homepage of my new website) starts with a black rectangular and then runs as it should. Is there a way to avoid this. I was hoping the slideshow would start with an image as soon as the site is visited. Regretfully the image is black at first which looks rather clumsy.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
The slide show is made with a snippet in iWeb. Would it help if I insert the slideshow using alternative html ?

Hi Francois,

sorry for the delay, I've been away for a few days without taking my computer with me.

It looks like you fixed the problem. At least I can't see any black square when the page loads.

Kind regards,
Cédric

Hi Cédric,
tx, yes the problem is solved, I just set all backgrounds to "transparent".
But then I got a white rectangular to start with. Then I followed your ebook by exchanging the snippet for a text box using massedit.
All is fine after that. Works great.

A few questions remain.
1. how can I keep working in iWeb without having to massedit the site at every update.
2. when someone opens the site with the mouse over the area were the movie is supposed to start the slideshow will not start. I am sure because of the mouseover action that stalls the slideshow.

Another question, I would like to add a new page with text that once you move your mouse over parts of text an appropriate image shows up on another part of the page. Will search your manual if thats possible.

You have made a great ebook, I am truly impressed with it.
Francois

Hi Francois,

1) You have to re-run MassReplaceIt every time you publish. I wish there was a better solution but there isn't. I hope you saved the query so the next time you only have to hit Replace in MassReplaceIt without you having to re-add all the Find&Replace every time. I'm sure you will get used to it. Of course it would be better if iWeb featured a better way to add HTML than HTML Snippets but that's something you have to blame Apple for.

2) I don't know about that, sorry.

3) I guess you could achieve what you want with adapting this:
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Hover_photos.html
to your needs. Instead of a thumbnail use a transparent image you put in front of the text or have the text on the thumbnail or you could also use text as the link like
Code:
<a class="photo" title="Name">This is your text<img class="big" src="http://iwebfaq.org/images/gallery1.jpg" /></a>

when people point the mouse over "This is your text" then the image would change/display on the other part of the page.

Regards,
Cédric

tx Cédric,
will try your suggestion later.

One thing I find very difficult is to keep mass replace it working. It seems to me that after one or two times it no longer works. Than the second screen does not come up with final replace all. It seems to run with that last ok but it actually does nothing. I have to restart and then it sometimes works again but usually I have to delete all custom settings and just do a complete new mass replace.

Do you have any problems with Mass Replace ?
Francois

I never experienced problems with MassReplaceIt which is why I'm using it to add almost all the codes you find on my website and there are a lot of Find&Replace on each page for a total of about 300 items replaced on the entire site after each publishing process.

In the five years I'm using it I never had to rebuild anything nor restart before using it or whatever. Anyway I guess what you are suffering of is not MassReplaceIt but more MobileMe/iDisk. Have a read at "2. If you use MobileMe:[...]" on this page:

http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Alternative_HTML_1.html

I always publish to a folder so I don't experience the problem described on the page.

All the best,
Cédric

tx again,
I will try the range of options you suggested on the link.

I think you are right, it must be the mobileme setup I am using. I will publish to a folder from now on.

I wonder sometimes why you are still using iWeb since all the knowledge you have about html. I have just bought http://www.theescapers.com/flux/ and hopefully I can bring my site to this app later on.

What I would really like is that you would write a manual for Flux3. At the moment there is none. I think there is a lot of potential for Flux for iWeb users. A manual on how to properly import an iWeb site and how to implement things like masterelements in Flux would be great.

Hi Cédric,
here's an update of the almost definite homepage with slideshow. Just the homepage, the rest will be done during coming weeks.
http://web.me.com/fillieverhoeven/v3.0/HOME_3.0.html

Do you know how to switch off the function that stalls the slideshow when it has the mouse over ?
Its a bit of a problem since the slideshow never starts when a visitor has his or hers mouse in the area of the slideshow.

Hi Francois,

I currently don't know how to have the slideshow playing on mouseover but if I find out I will tell you.

When putting the mouse on the left side (where you have text) the slideshow still plays so for now you could put a transparent shape in front of the slideshow to have it playing even when people point their mouse over it. Just a workaround but it works as long as you don't use the slideshow images as links (which you currently don't as far as I've seen).

Regards,
Cédric

tx, good plan. I might however do links as well. Anyhow, you are right that as soon as you move over to the text the slides start. So the show will probably be seen by all who visit the site.

Any thoughts on my comment on flux3
Tx again.
