Hey there, first of all, fantastic job on the site, it was really helpful getting me going in the right direction!

Now what I need help with is a few things, I have tried to add a drop down menu to my website using your instructions, but for some reason when I view the site it comes in a list that basically just looks like this :

Home
Syncing
-PC
-Mac
-iOS Devices
Publishing
-iWeb
-iPhoto
-iMovie
-iCal
-Aperture
-Quicktime
Account
-Cancelations
-Password Resets
-Account Information
Me.com
-Mail
-Contacts
-Calendars
-Gallery
-iDisk
-Find My iPhone
iDiskSyncing

Tiered like that, but just in a simple list instead of the menu bar that I customized using the CSS menu generator. As far as I can tell, I followed your instructions exactly as I should have and the menu folder is in the "root" folder as it should be, it's just not displaying the menu correctly.

Here is my code from one of the sites :

Code:
I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE CODE GIVE ME A LINK!

I hope that is enough information to help try and figure out what is going on, I would appreciate any assistance that you can offer!

Thank you!

OK it is not working again, and I am not sure what I changed. So please do look into this whenever you get a chance.

Also of note is that now even my "sample" file is displaying in the odd tiered format that the main site does. It did not do this originally.

As written in the general troubleshoot of the tutorial if that happens you probably did not upload the "menu" folder, did not upload it to the right location, did upload the wrong folder or didn't adapt the code for the use with MobileMe if using http://web.me.com/username/

I don't care about the code. If you want me to help provide me a link to the page (written in the general troubleshoot at point 3)

Greets,
Cédric

It's OK! I appreciate the help, I am still not sure what I was doing, but I did get it to work, the menu folder is in the right location, unfortunately I cannot link you to the page because it is a business network-internal only site.

I figured you might respond the way you did so I do apologize for not following the instructions, for the record I have read it all and if I need anything else I will do my best to provide pictures or something, but I just can't link you to the site.

The reason why I'm asking for the URL to the page and not for the code is that in 80% of the cases the problems are caused by people not uploading the folder to the right location on their server (which is not that easy if it's the first time you're doing something like this) and the only way for me to understand whether they uploaded it to the right location or not is if I have their URL or domain. I can't see from the code whether they did that part right or not. And if that's ok then I can look at the code on the page itself to find out where the problem is (without having people pasting the code here).

Since the code is generated by cssmenumaker the problems usually aren't in the code. Unless people edit it after they generate it for some reason.

If people don't want to make their site public they can also send me a PM on the forum and the only person seeing it would be me.

Regards and happy 2011,
Cédric

Hi there,

just a quick question on adding a drop down menu,

when you add the text box with 'menugohere' should this text box be the entire width of the page?

and

I too have had the previous problem of text showing up in iweb rather than the menu bar created, is this down to uploading the menu folder too the wrong location on my server? i believe that the root of my server is the same place as i uploaded my favicon, which works so this is where i am uploading my menu folder.

any help would be great

thanks,

Max

Hi Max,

about the first question: yes, it would be good if the TextBox would be added to the entire page/content width.

About the second question if it displays as text in 80% of the cases it's because people didn't upload the menu folder to the right location in 19% it's because people edited a part of the code which they are not supposed to edit and there's a 1% I didn't see yet. Without a URL to the page where you embedded the menu to there is no way for me to tell you in which percentage you are. Hence if you want me to help you please post a URL.

Regards,
Cédric

Hi there again,

With this part of the tutorial, is the desired spot the same txt box as where you put your menugohere or does it require a new text box/html snippet?

7. On your computer go to the “menu_XXX_XXXXX” folder you downloaded from the site and open the Installation_instruction.html file in
Safari by double clicking on it. Copy the code you find where it says “2) Copy and paste the code below to the desired spot in your site” which looks something like this

thanks,

Max
