Hi Cédric

How would I enable a webpage to only be seen after inputting a password?

Thanks
Malcolm

iWeb's password protection works only on MobileMe (since you're using MobileMe that's ok) in addition to that you can apply the password protection only to entire sites and not only to a single page of a website (everything or nothing).

Hence you need to make a new site (File=>New Site) only for the page you want to apply a password to. Select the site and under Privacy enter the username and password people will need to enter to see the page. Once you did that and published link to the page from the website which is open to the public.

Regards,
Cédric

Thanks Cédric. It works as advertised. I don't know why I never thought of that.

Thanks again.

Is it possible to do this using iWeb publishing to a file and uploading to host excellence? I was hoping to make only two or three pages of my website accessible via password. I'm not too concerned about security, no nuclear launch codes or anything. I would then give the password to a handful of people who would assess the pages.

Yes. In iWeb create a new site (File=>Add Site) and place the pages you want to protect in this site.
Publish the website and password protect the site's folder as per instructions

I am struggling with this. I created a new site and placed the three pages I want to protect in this site. I then published it to a folder. Now is where I am stuck. I have only one domain name and a “basic” Host Excellence account. I used Cyberduck and uploaded the three pages in the new site to the host excellence account. The problem is, I don’t know where to put them other than into my original (non password protected) site. It now looks the same as the pages that are already on the site.

On HostExcellence you have a folder named after your domain yourdomain.com
In that folder you have your iWeb created site hence a folder named for example "site" which loads by typing in yourdomain.com/site/
In the yourdomain.com you now put another site folder for example "site2" so you will have

yourdomain.com/site/
and
yourdomain.com/site2/

and you password protect only the /site2/ following the instructions.

Cédric

I read the info above but I don't think it applies for my situation because of the different tools I use for my website. I'm using Cyberduck and Iweb to post changes to my website using Hostbaby. How would I go about password protecting one single page? I just want to have a page where I can post new music for labels and publishers to access without letting the public access it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Saiah,

whether you use HostExcellence or any other hosting, whether you use iWeb or any other application and whether you use Cyberduck or any other FTP doesn't matter as far as I know. I think there is no way to password protect a single page and think you have to have a site hence folder to password protect.

If what is described here
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP_HE.html#6
doesn't help you you may contact your hosting's support or consult your hosting's support documentation. Some hostings work very similarly others don't. Unfortunately there is no way for me to know how each hosting works.

Regards,
Cédric

I just saw the reply. Thanks for getting back to me. You were right about password protecting one page. I found a different way to handle it. I appreciate it the help.
