Hello Cédric

I have two issues regarding my blog:
1/RSS-to email campaign - can I alter the layout of iWebs RSS
2/utf-8 encoding - can iWeb or is iWeb formatted this way

Re: 1/
I am using mailchimp.com to deliver an automated mail out of my blog posts via RSS-to email to subscribers.
Works great alas the layout of the RSS I cannot effect. Each mail out is to feature a painting accompanied by the text in the post. I would like to manipulate the proportions of the image to better feature the artwork.

Re: 2/
My first mail out found that a subscriber in Italy's email had character replacements. I wrote to mailchimp.com support and they said:
"In order for all of your emails to be most consistenly displayed to all readers, you'll want to make sure each of your characters is first encoded using utf-8. "
as well as:
"Because this is an RSS-to-email campaign, you would definitely want to check within your original blog publishing software to make sure that it is using utf-8 encoding. You should find the options within the settings of your CMS!"

Do you know if I am able to access the CMS (whatever that is) and format using utf-8?
If it helps to view the layout, this is the url of the original RSS-email post from last week:

Thank you Cédric.

Hi Wendy,

1) As far as I know it's not possible to alter the layout of the RSS feed in iWeb itself and I have no idea how that would be done in the code.

2) I sometimes feel like CMS is a word people like to use because it makes them feel particularly "techy" or "pro" but that's just an opinion. CMS is the short form of Content Management System so it means "anything you use to organize your content". iTunes is a CMS for music, iPhoto for photos, Word for text and whatever, iWeb for your websites, the closet in the bedroom is a CMS to organize your clothes, the fridge is a CMS for food, ...

The encoding can't be changed in iWeb itself but iWeb already encodes everything as UTF-8 by default so the problem doesn't seem to be on that side of it.

To me the problem either is the server you publish to (shouldn't be) or the mail server sending out the e-mails but I really have no clue. In the e-mails I get from PayPal Cédric is always spelled as Cédric so my guess would be that their mail server uses the wrong character encoding since the e-mails I get from my own server correctly read Cédric.

Of course it could also be the mail server of the Italian one being configured to use the wrong encoding but as I previously said I don't know but I'm pretty sure the problem (for once maybe) is not in iWeb.

Regards,
Cédric

Hi Cédric,

Well that's me pushing the limits of iWeb and my own capabilities! I could have used e blogger but I like the unique look I can achieve with iWeb. So I shall try to ignore the email image proportions - at least it is clickable to reveal an enlargement quickly.

Once again, I am thrilled with having been able to input google analytics thanks to your iWeb FAQ's ebook. Tracking is brilliant marketing research.

Thank you for your reply Cédric, and your explanations - hmmmm - the CMS in my house isn't so great either ;)

Cheers,
