Hello there,

I have purchased the iWeb FAQ eBook (and it is great - really easy to follow). I purchased it specifically for the auto-fading slideshow, but I just can't get it to work and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I have followed the instructions in the eBook and loaded everything to my root directory. I have checked that the images are there - they definitely are. I have checked that I inserted all of the code into the HTML snippet - I did. I deleted everything and started again, but when I load my home page, the centre of the page where my slideshow should appear is completely blank.

Can you take a look and tell me what I have missed?

Saint Gertrude

Hi,

thanks for buying my E-Book and I'm glad you like it. If there's anything you'd like to do which isn't discussed in the E-Book yet, please don't hesitate to let me know and I will see what I can do.

The solution to your problem is quite easy. In the code where it says

Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://saintgertrude.com.au/Home.html/fadeslideshow/fadeslideshow.js">

you need to use

Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://saintgertrude.com.au/fadeslideshow/fadeslideshow.js">

instead. No need for /Home.html. Once you correct that everything should work fine.

Regards,
Cédric

Thank you Cedric - it now works perfectly. When I first tried the slideshow I used the URL saintgertrude.com.au and when it didn't work, I thought I needed to specify the full URL. I must have been doing something else wrong!

Sometimes people forget to type the http:// in http://yourdomain.com so they just type yourdomain.com without http:// which doesn't work, don't know whether this was your case too or not. Anyway I'm glad it works now.

Hi Cedric,

I'm so sorry, now I'm having trouble with the manual slideshow! The show appears on my site, but the navigation buttons won't work. I replaced them with my own images, but apart from that I don't think I've changed any of the code. Could you take a look and tell me if something is missing?

Also, is there a way to hide or delete the "1/5" numbers between the left and right navigation?

Thank you and sorry again.

To remove the 1/5 remove class="status" in
<span class="status" style="margin:0 275px; font-weight:bold"></span>

The slideshow works as you can see here: http://www.saintgertrude.com.au/Test//S ... arkup.html

If you can't interact with the buttons it means that there's something in front of them. Up to you to find out what it is. Probably the frame you put around the content.

Regards,
Cédric

Cedric, thank you so much for taking the time to reply so quickly. My website is now live and absolutely perfect. Couldn't have done it without your eBook and your personal help.

Cedric,

I, too, say MANY THANKS for your eBook. I've tried to make the FadeSlideShow work, but must be missing something. (When you go to the site, you'll see Home and Home 2. Home has just one image; I was trying to put several fading images on Home 2.)

I add my "thank you" to all the others for your great service to us!

Hi,

enter the URLs of the images into your browser
http://maxfrysolutions.com/fadeimages/1_vats.jpg
and you will find a Not found message which in turn I guess is the reason why it doesn't work.

Also note that after the last image there shouldn't be a comma.

Regards,
Cédric

That's odd. I was able to view them last night when I typed the url.

In the instructions, step 3 says to download the fade slideshow folder and upload it to the root.
BEFORE tweaking it in TextWrangler? Do you not have to upload the modified folder, but just put the changes in the HTML Snippet box?
