Hi,

I want to keep the two websites I created in iWeb and I already have them hosted with Easily.co.uk.
The headache I now have, is that with iDisk becoming obsolete in only a few days time, the Snippets that I used to create the integral slideshows will no longer work, as they use MobileMe.
Without the snippets, my websites will have no content.

What can I do to overcome this problem?

I have registered with the company "Dropbox" in order to save all my website files, but how to I ensure the Snippets continue to work? I use about 10 snippets between both websites.
This is an example of what one of the Snippets looks like on one of my slideshows :
As you can see, it uses Web.me.com together with my user name. What do I need to change to make it work still?

Thanks for your help!

Get the jslideprewedshoot2 folder from your iDisk/Web/Sites/ folder and upload it to the root of your new hosting.

In the code change http://web.me.com/jameslmackenzie/ to http://yourdomain.com so
http://web.me.com/jameslmackenzie/jslid ... index.html
will look like
http://yourdomain.com/jslideprewedshoot2/index.html

Regards,
Cédric

Thanks Cédric, but unfortunately when I tried replacing http://web.me.com/jameslmackenzie/ with my domain name : http://www.james-mackenzie.co.uk/jslide ... index.html, I get a "File Not Found" "The requested URL was not found on this server" message. I also tried leaving off the www. prefix but this made no difference.

All my web folders have been copied correctly to Dropbox.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

James

Why Dropbox? Aren't you hosting your websites with Easily.co.uk?

I doubt http://www.james-mackenzie.co.uk points to Dropbox. Pretty sure it doesn't.

Hi Cédric,

Yes I'm hosting my sites with Easily. I explained my situation to them asking if their system could store my iFrame snippets transferred from iDisk, but they can't...!

This is what they had to say this afternoon :

Hi James,

Thank you for emailing Easily.

You will need to use another code as iframe is originated by Apple, as we are a web hosting company we won't be able to assist with this as it is to do with coding. Definitely slideshows do work with Easily web hosting but you should consider using a similar code from elsewhere.

I don't know what to do as I have such limited technical knowledge. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated as I am really stuck.

Many thanks,

James

Forget what Easily.com told you.

You are hosting your websites with Easily.co.uk but upload your widget files to Dropbox and hope that it works. It doesn't. No way.

If you host your websites with Easily.com you have to upload the widgets to Easily.com

1) Get Cyberduck and follow the instructions on how to use Cyberduck and connect to your server
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Folder_FTP.html
Chapter 4.
2) Take the widget files and upload them to the same location as the James_MackenzieUKWeddingPhotographer folder on your server (NOT Dropbox!)
3) Follow the instructions I've given you earlier

If you do upload the files to the right location you will not get a Not found message anymore when entering:
http://www.james-mackenzie.co.uk/jslide ... index.html

As long as you do not upload them to the right location you will get the Not found message.

All the best,
Cédric

Thanks for the continued advice Cédric.

I am still working away to try and get Cyberduck to upload the slideshows on one of my websites. I have successfully managed to upload the two main galleries of pictures as you recommended, but it won't upload the two remaining folders of pictures. One which is much smaller (only about 12 pictures) and the other a small slide show of words acting as a written header which fades the words in and out on the welcome page.
It comes up first with a stack of duck icons on my desktop to say each picture has failed to upload and then shows up with the message "Quota Exceeded" in the "Transfers" box.
The total of all these folders for the first website is under 100MB, so surely there is enough space?
However, even though it came up with these failure messages, one of the folders I was trying to upload seems to be sitting within my site folder...!

Should I continue uploading my folders even though I continue to get these failure messages?

Thanks again,

J

-Sorry, the message comes up "Disk Quota Exceeded" to be precise!
I still can't upload all of the folders due to this problem...

I have also just been emailed by my server Easily.co.uk, to say that have exceeded my disk quota limit of 100MB and to purchase more Disk Quota indicating that something must be getting duplicated?
If so, how do I free up space with my current server to allow for Cyberduck to continue uploading my iDisk slideshows?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I just hope I can get it sorted before iDisk disappears completely on Saturday.

James

I have no clue what you're doing so no way for me to tell what the problem is or whether there is one. Nor do I know what you have on your server and what not.

What I know is that 100MB Disk quota is nothing and easily full .

Either buy more disk quota or get another better hosting.
