Thanks for all this information, it has been really helpful. However, I am a 'newbie' at all this and finding it quite hard to get my head around!
My situation is that I have a website and blog published on .mac.
I have purchased a domain name and want to link that only to the blog, keeping the website on .mac, and I don't want people visiting the blog to see the website.
I just cannot figure out how to make this happen, as when I go to set this process at the .mac end, it appears only to be interested in my user name, not any divisions of website/blog names, if you understand what I am saying. It does not seem to make any different if I name the blog and the website something different, they are both going to come under my user name, which is set to link to the domain name.
I have been going round and round with this, and would appreciate your input. I would prefer not to have to do the 'folder' route as this seems to add extra hassle.
Also, following your instructions to look for domain.sites2 (I can't remember exactly what you said right now as I'm not looking for it, when I looked in Finder what I found was simply 'domain'.
I am running Leopard and iWeb 08.
Thanks for your patience!
Janet W

Hi Janet,

Let's answer it backwards beginning from the end... In Finder you see simply "domain" because you activated the "hide the extension" extension= .sites2 which is hidden thus it's simply Domain... I have it this way too... What changes is how the name displays, nothing else...

Now about your situation... What I would do is the following:

-Have two sites in iWeb
in iWeb go to File => New Site
-First site showing in iWeb would be your usual website (I will call it Website1)
Second site showing in iWeb would be the Blog site (I will call it BlogSite)
-Instead of changing the CNAME on your personal domain simply Forward it directly to your Blog

(that's both in the same Domain file, but it works with one Domain file each too if you prefer)

This is the situation now:

web.mac.com/yourusername/sitename/pagename.html

thus with two websites

web.mac.com/yourusername/Website1/pagename.html
web.mac.com/yourusername/BlogSite/pagename.html

with CNAME entering yourdomain.com gets you to the site showing up first in your iWeb:

with one site
yourdomain.com/sitename/pagename.html

two sites
yourdomain.com/Website1/pagename.html
yourdomain.com/BlogSite/pagename.html

As you don't want to have yourdomain.com/Website1/pagename.html you should use Simple Forward with cloaking/masking:

entering yourdomain.com pointed to web.mac.com/yourusername/BlogSite/pagename.html
displays web.mac.com/yourusername/BlogSite/pagename.html but in the browser it will stay yourdomain.com.
and only the blog displays as it is a site on its own, the pages of Website1 will not display.

entering web.mac.com/username/ would then display Website1 as it's the first in iWeb

however the blog will ALSO be reachable entering web.mac.com/yourusername/BlogSite/ so it will work both ways with the BlogSite but it will not work both ways for Website1 (you could have another domain for it setup with CNAME if you want to have yourotherdomain.com/Website1/pagename.html).

To set up forwarding instead of CNAME have a look at your Domain Registrar Help...

I hope that helped... And I hope you understood what I mean...

Regards,
Cédric
