I hate to say this, since I have put so much effort into my iWeb site, but I'd suggest that the signs are there isn't going to be a new iWeb.

The iLife suite that includes iWeb has received a major upgrade with the exception of two apps. iWeb is one and the other is iDvd. Apple has already made it clear that it sees no future in CD's and DVD's and I'd suggest it is fixing to drop iDvd.

Further cause for concern is that the new Mac App Store features all of the iLife apps except, you guessed it, iWeb and iDvd.

Either iWeb has one foot in the grave or Apple are planning a totally overhauled and possibly rebranded product - I sincerely hope that it's the latter.

Personally I think it already has two feet in the grave but I hope it doesn't...

Hi everybody.

I've been frustrated with the lack of updates to iWeb like everyone else here. I've been trying to find an alternative to iWeb to meet the software's deficiencies. I've been trying several claimed alternatives to iWeb that offered more functionality but each of them were lacking in one of the more significant areas that I've come to really appreciate iWeb for.

I'm really excited to announce that I have found the alternative that we've been looking for. It addresses nearly all the issues people have brought up here yet its functionality is very familiar to iweb users.

The software is named Web Acappella. It's made by a German company who created an English translation. My only two beefs with the software is that the translated text is good but obviously not written by a native english speaker. The other is that it just doesn't feel like a Mac application.

For an iweb user though, the transition is WONDERFUL.
They offer a free version that has some limitations:

Along with what was already mentioned, I would like to...

1) Be a able to select multiple pages (left bar) simultaneously for deleting them or copying them
2) more easily "copy" web pages from one "domain" to another. for different versions and experiments.
3) Make html snippets appear on same eventual webpage for more integrated "trumba usage"

http://www.trumba.com/connect/webcalend ... jects.aspx

4) Add integrated webcrusher capability into iWeb for minimizing graphics sizes (page at a time updating)
5) better flash integration - so I can see the cause and effect real time

Thanks,
Eric

It would be really nice if you could just put your existing website in the directory created by iWeb and then recalculate the website links and start editing and testing your old existing website! Now only possible through small hacking of url file as described on this site.

I'd like them not to kill iWeb. I think they don't realize what a great thing they have.

If they do or don't kill it, I'd like to see them open source the project so that it can continue evolving by other people who are interested in making things better.

Cheers.

1. some kind of variation in the navigation bar set-up along with a way to make a drop-down navigation bar
2. some way to easily create thumbnails that will be shown on sites like facebook
3. wider variation of widgets similar to the ones you can find on Widgetbox. Widgetbox makes you pay unless you don't mind the ads which we all of course do.
4. A wider variation of professional themes. I bought the iweb suite and I still find myself looking around for more professional looking themes. There is more use for business themes than there are for holiday themes and the such.

I would love iWeb to have the following:

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) - implement this within iWeb
:)
