I read the instructions. I couldn't get past 2:

1. Put the file or folder you want to offer as a download on your Desktop

2. If you want the download process to start automatically when the link is clicked select that file or folder and in the upper menu (or finder bar) go to File and then select "Create Archive

I can't find "Create Archive" anywhere on the Desktop, Preview, or iWeb.

I resorted to the ISSU but that doesn't seem to be an easy download. I am offering the PDF completely free.

This is where I want to put it:

mathhelp.tomgunterman.com

If I can figure this out, I'd like to buy the ebook next. Thank you for your work.

Tom

Hi Tom,

what version of Mac OS do you have? (Apple logo, About This Mac)

In 10.6 (Snow Leopard) select the file, go to File and choose Create Archive, or ctrl+click on it and choose Create Archive

In 10.5 (Leopard) select the file, go to File and choose Compress, or ctrl+click on it and choose Compress "Name of the file"

I don't remember about earlier version of Mac OS. But you could go here http://www.yellowmug.com/yemuzip/ download YemuZip, open YemuZip, drop the file you want to make a zip file of in the appropriate area of the YemuZip application, hit OK and you will get your zip file.

Regards,
Cédric

FAQ will soon be updated and hopefully improved

Thank you for your quick reply, Cedric.

I have a new enough Mac, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS 10.6.7

I think I found the problem. There is no "Create Archive" command in File when the file is chosen. It is "Compress 'filename.'"

I didn't understand the root thing after reading the explanation a couple of times. I use Dreamhost for hosting.

Finally, I just dragged and dropped the zip file made by "Compress" onto my iWeb page, published it, and that seemed to work fine.

I obviously have no knowledge or sense of most of this. To someone else smarter, the Compress command would probably have meant .zip, or archive, to them.

Anyway, I bought your ebook and will try to figure it out. I like the webpage samples your customers show on the forum. They don't look like iWebish.

Thank you again for your quick help.
Tom

The easiest way would be to try it. Sometimes reading ain't enough. Just take a picture and name it picture.jpg

Upload it to your server and when it shows up in your browser under
http://yourdomain.com/picture.jpg
then you uploaded it to the root. If it doesn't show up you didn't upload it to the root.

Alternatively the root is where the main index.html and the sitename folder created by iWeb are uploaded to.

Regards,
Cédric
